When we come down for admissions  , where can we stay ? Can we stay in guest house of IIT B  , if available? How to apply? What is the rule position and what has been the practice? Perhaps the number would be too large and  I feel the guest house may not be possible. If not allowed, can you suggest some neat, clean hotels at reasonable rates to stay nearby ?
Are the hostels given immediately ? or does it take a few days ?  under your topic "Hostel Life at IIT Bombay"  'Rules for Guests' is not opening.

Hostels are allotted to you at the Main Gate itself when you enter IITB.

Also,
Most people, who do not have relatives/friends in Mumbai stay over with their kid in the hostel room itself. This is only a temporary arrangement and please note that the hall manager allows this only for the first 1-2 days (admission time).

Mothers (or other female members) may stay over at H10, and fathers (or other male members) at H2/3/4 with the ward.

Due to this space crunch, we would suggest that as few family members as possible accompany the student to Mumbai, if they are planning to stay at the Hostel.

There are a few hotels in the suburbs of Bhandup and Mulund close by.

Bhandup is about 10mins from IIT and Mulund is about 20-30 mins from IIT  by Auto

One I know for sure is:
Pride hotel Opp. RR Paints, LBS Marg, Bhandup (W), Mumbai
It is a budget accommodation the price should be <Rs.1000 a night

There are a lot more of these in the region near Wockhardt hospital in Mulund that is a bit further away.

For 3 star accomodation I suggest hotels near the airport with is also about 15 mins away but traffic can make it upto 45 mins away at rush hour

there are 3 hotels very close by in Powai but they fall under expensive and very expensive category

Note IIT in Mumbai is on one of the busiest roads in Mumbai at Rush hour time. So if you have train/flights to catch or plan to move around at rush hour time(9-11am & 5-8pm) then expect delays.

the submission of dd is smwher in 9-12 july and after dat there is a gap of 10 days for registration and orientation so will accomodation b provided for the 10 day gap...?
