Well, it is very bad time to be a hockey enthusiast in a country which has forgotten its past glory. From the legendary Dhyan Chand to the inspirational Dhanraj Pillay, Indian hockey players used to delight hockey connoisseurs around the world. After the recent performance of India in the world cup, our future prospects also do not look too bright.
But here in IIT Bombay we do try to make a difference. The legacy of this forgotten sport still continues here. With a group of highly enthusiastic students, the hockey scene of IIT Bombay has always rocked. With its lush green field, IIT Bombay has one of the best facilities for hockey as compared to any other college in India. Hockey is also offered as an NSO option for freshers. Under the able guidance of our dear coach, Dr. Appaji , freshers have an excellent opportunity to grasp the basics of hockey. There are many competitions held every year like fresher ´s open, Sophie GC, Inter-hostel GC. IIT Bombay hockey team also plays in the 3rd division of Bombay Hockey League, a professional league conducted by the Maharashtra Hockey Association.
