"Defying Gravity"
..is what defines this wonderful game. Volleyball is one of the most famous team game in the world with a huge fan base and very high viewership around the globe. The game requires both individual skill and good team work. Quick reflexes, good body co-ordination and commitment to the game along with a good physique makes a good player of Volleyball. There are lots of variations of this game, Beach Volleyball amongst others being one of the prominent and widely followed. At IIT Bombay, Volleyball (more commonly referred as "Volley") is one of the most famous games and finding the institute and hostel courts engaged with enthusiasts even in rains is not a rare sight. We have a rich legacy of wonderful team culture and boast of some excellent players that our institute has produced. We endeavour to carry on the legacy and reach out to attain new heights of passion for the sport. For girls the game of Throwball, a variant of volleyball famous in South-Asian countries, is organised in the institute and attracts participation from both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It has been unfortunate that despite being amongst the most popular games for girls all over the world, participation of girls in Volleyball in the institute has been discouraging. We look forward to all enthusiasts to come out and participate with full vigour to revive the sporting spirit.

Main Events

• Inter hostel GC in which hostel battle out against each other to grab the gold.
• Sophomore GC in which all sophomores as well as PG student of any year can participate.
• Freshers Sports Weekend where freshies come out in full vigour to establish supremacy of their hostels.
• PG sports in which players play for the department.
• There is a NSO programme in which around 40 students are trained for fitness as well as various skills in volleyball by the volleyball coach Dr. Edwin.
• Volleyball T.A.ship programme is being proposed and details will be up on the site soon.
• There will be weekend and beginner camps organized next semester. Players interested in making it to the Inter IIT volleyball team and other enthusiasts should come and make best use of the training provided.
• There will be an Inter IIT selection, during which around 15 players will be shortlisted for the Inter IIT camp to take place in December, for 10 days before the Inter IIT sports meet.
• There will also be other fun events too throughout the year. Announcements will be made regularly about these events.
