Hostel Rules
1. CODE OF
CONDUCT:
No posters or leaflets/pamphlets distribution allowed in the hostel without permission from the
respective hostel council or Dean SA. Speeches/plays/music or any other activities that disturbs the
peace of hostel environment are strictly prohibited, not allowed even if faculty is part of the
gathering. Only matters that are approved from Dean SA office will be permitted. Residents shall not
participate in any anti-national, anti-social and/or any other undesirable activities.
2. BEHAVIOR:
All residents shall be courteous and fair with everyone, inside and outside hostel. Misbehaviour to
PHO, mess, office, staff, security and/or council member shall not be tolerated. Ragging is criminal
offence. One should not screen pirated/unauthorised movies. All students shall carry their institute
identity cards and produce on demand. Furniture and fitments should not be moved from one place to
another. Walls, doors, shelves and windows should not be defaced either form inside or outside. Any
misbehaviour complaints will be forwarded to the disciplinary committee. Fines and/or disciplinary
punishments awarded under WDC and DAC needs to be adhered within the time frame provided.
3. SMOKING/DRINKING:
Possession, Smoking and consumption of alcoholic drinks and/or narcotic drugs inside IIT Bombay is
strictly prohibited. Any violation of this rule will lead to heavy fine as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.1000/-
For the second complaint: Rs.2000/-
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities. In case of any
disagreement, please contact Dean SA.
4. GUEST ENTRY:
Only student of IIT Bombay alone is permitted to visit the rooms of hostel for academic purpose.
They need to deposit their IIT ID card with the hostel security and sign the visitor book. Guest
entry is allowed from 7:30 AM to 10 PM. Exit of guests should be done before 10 PM. No person of the
opposite sex, guest or otherwise shall stay overnight in the hostel after 10 PM. Parents, brother
and sister allowed to stay in hostel only after due permission from the Warden or Dean SA.
Exit after 10:00 PM will result in a fine as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.500/- every 10 minutes
For the second complaint: Rs.1000/- every 10 minutes
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities.

This is a matter of security and no leniency will be tolerated on it. Also, male guests are not
allowed to roam inside the hostel premise alone, hostel residents must accompany their friends.
Please note that you need to accompany your guest at the time of exit and you need to take back your
Id-Card after the exit. Leaving ID-card at the security desk will prompt fine of Rs.500.
5. ILLEGAL GUEST STAY:
A resident cannot keep guest in their room without prior permission. In case, guest is found in your
room, fine will be imposed as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.10000/- per guest
For the second complaint: Rs.20000/- per guest
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities.

disagreement, please contact Dean SA.
If a resident doesn't open her room during security checking even after many knockings, security
will consider a case of emergency (maybe you have fainted or you are in condition to not respond)
and break the door. Please cooperate during security checks.
6. EMERGENCY/FIRE EXIT DOORS:
One is not supposed to use the emergency/fire exit doors across the hostel except two near the
ground floor lifts. The opening of these doors makes the fire alarm ON. Anyone found violating the
rules will be fined as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.2000/-
For the second complaint: Rs.4000/-
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities.
In case of any
disagreement, please contact Dean SA. If male guest is found using emergency/fire exit doors without
male guest entry, fine for the first complaint: Rs.10000/- and the complaint will be forwarded to
Dean SA.
7. COOKING IN ROOM:
One is not supposed cook in the hostel room and/or use any high power electrical appliances.
Possession of any such appliance or cooking in room incurs fine of Rs. 10,000.
8. MALE WASHROOMS:
There are four male washrooms in the hostel. All the male washrooms are labelled as Male Washroom.
Other than these, males are strictly not allowed to use any other washroom.
a) Near night canteen (old building)
b) 3rd floor handicapped washroom of D-wing (near A wing)
c) 7th floor handicapped washroom of D-wing (near A wing)
d) Near ground floor reception (Opposite to Hall Manager’s office)
It is compulsory for hostel residents to accompany their friends when they go to the washroom. You
must stand there until and unless they come back so that we can prevent any unusual encounter with
other hostilities.Violation of above rules will lead to fines as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.500/-
For the second complaint: Rs.1000/-

9. PETTING DOGS/CATS:
Any resident found petting, feeding dogs/cats inside the hostel premises or abetting their entrance
into the hostel. Imposed fine is as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.1000/-
For the second complaint: Rs.2000/-
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities.

10. PLANTS:
Plants are not allowed in any of the room or inside hostel building except garden area. Any
violation of this rule will lead to fines as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.500/-
For the second complaint: Rs.1000/-
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities.

11. WASHING MACHINE USAGE:
Washing of undergarments or shoes/socks/floor mats are not allowed in any washing machine/dryer.
Violation will lead to fine as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.1000/- per item
For the second complaint: Rs.2000/- per item
More than two violations will result in revocation of hostel facilities.

12. UTENSILS IN WASHROOMS:
Any utensils left untouched in washrooms for more than two days will be thrown away without any
notice. Please take care of your things and don’t force us take any such action. If anyone witnesses
any violation referred above, please inform office staff and council. Please maintain hygiene while
using toilets, washrooms and wash basins so that other hostel inmates don’t feel uncomfortable to
use these after you. Remember that PHO workers are also humans. Be good citizens. Please use all the
facilities with responsibility so that everyone gets to enjoy the hostel life. Try not to be
“irritating some” for your wingies/hostel inmates.
13. MESS UTENSILS:
Taking mess utensils outside mess area is strictly not allowed. Violating the rules will lead to
fines as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.500/- per utensil
For the second complaint: Rs.1000/- per utensil
More than two violations will result in revocation of mess facilities.

14. ANY ACTIVITY ROOM KEY:
Whoever is issuing the 24*7/library/dance/gym/music/pool/board-games/tech room's key should return
it immediately as you lock the room. If key is not returned and the room is found locked, fine will
be imposed as follows:
For the first complaint: Rs.500/-
For the second complaint: Rs.1000/-
For the third complaint: Rs.2000/-
Fine gets doubled with every next complaint..
