Definitely bring umbrella or raincoat with you even though they are available in campus shops, it's raining continuously in Mumbai. Make your luggage light, try to bring only necessary things. Campus has variety of shops (like Y-point or IIT Market) where you can purchase all the basic required things. Each hostel has a general store for other essentials. There are couple of supermarkets (D-Mart, Haiko) within a 1 km from main gate. Try to avoid bringing things like mattress, pillow, buckets, etc. small shops with these things will be put up in the campus itself during few initial days. Bed dimensions are 6ft * 3ft. So you can bring bed sheets accordingly, otherwise you can buy here its easily available. To use the bus facility inside the campus you may need to keep the hostel payment receipt (until you get an Institute ID card).

Upon arrival you can directly go to your allocated hostel. A room will be alloted to you accordingly. Information about hostel accomodation

It is extremely important that you attend the orientation programme. It's not just a casual registration process but will aid in easing your transition into the Master's environment. It has been carefully designed to give students an overall picture about their awaiting journey at IITB. You will be paid your stipend for the month of July from the day of the orientation if you are present for it

As an IIT Bombay student, there are a bunch of options regarding financial aid. Canara Bank, State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and others are waiting for you during the orientation program where you can easily apply for education loan. It is advisable to come with your parents in case you are looking for an education loan. It takes about a week to get a loan approved. The bank requires a parents signature, so bring a parent along to avoid unnecessary delay. Getting an education loan while at IIT Bombay would be easier than in your home town. IIT Bombay Alumni Association also provides need based education loans at a relatively lower interest rate (compared to Banks) with ease. IIT Bombay Student Benevolent Fund supports extremely poor/needy students based on the approval of Deciding Committee for rare cases.
