Greetings from the Contingent!
The journey to gold continues. As we move forward in our preparation for Inter IIT Tech Meet 14.0, it’s time to take on our next challenge — this time, from ISRO.
The Mid-Prep Problem Statement by ISRO – “Natural Language Interpretation of Satellite Imagery” – has just been released. This challenge calls on you to revolutionize the way humans interact with Earth-observation data through the power of GIS, natural language, and AI.
Short Summary of the Problem Statement:
Design and build a functional web-based prototype that allows non-expert users to interpret and analyze satellite imagery using natural-language queries.
Your platform should enable the following key functionalities:
- Captioning: Automatically generate accurate textual descriptions for satellite images.
- Grounding: Localize and highlight objects within an image from a user query using oriented bounding boxes.
- Visual Question Answering (VQA): Provide intelligent, precise answers about object attributes and relationships.
Bonus points for multimodality — extend to SAR, infrared, or false-color composites.
Skills Required:
- Remote Sensing / Satellite Image Analysis
- Vision-Language Models (VLMs) & Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Web Development & Deployment (Frontend + Backend)
