Team Zero-Waste

We don’t just clean up - we design better.

Team Zero-Waste at IIT Bombay is a student-led Cleantech initiative. Launched in March 2024, we are a tech-team aiming to transform sustainability from a concept into actionable products and practices on campus and beyond. Building upon the legacy of pre-pandemic waste collection efforts, the team integrates technology development, policy design, and community engagement to develop smarter systems for waste reduction and resource optimization. Key Focus Areas: Tech for Good: Developing smart tools to enhance waste segregation and material recovery, track waste generation, and increase the reuse and recycling of materials such as our automated segregation bins and plastic extruder. Circular Policy Design: Redesigning systems to minimize waste and optimize resource recovery, including sustainable event planning, reducing single-use plastics, promoting bicycle reuse, and implementing campus-wide sustainability guidelines. Awareness & Advocacy: Engaging the campus community through workshops, surveys, social media, and on-ground drives to foster a culture of sustainability and encourage behavioral change. We have also partnered with the Local Conference of Youth India, 2024 (a UNICEF, UNFCCC event) and are a part of the UNMGY Chemicals and Youth Platform, represented at BRS COP 2025. We invite students from all backgrounds to contribute in creating a sustainable campus environment. For more information or to get involved, visit our website
