Triage & Escalation
Campus Computing Triage
Identify your computing or network issue below to follow the verified resolution sequence.
Need to file an official technical incident directly with the Computer Centre?
The Computer Centre Helpdesk is the authoritative destination for IIT Bombay IT trouble tickets.
Hostel Wired LAN & Room Connectivity
Resolving ethernet wall jack issues, DHCP address acquisition, floor switch dropouts, and SysAd coordination.
Connect your RJ-45 LAN cable securely into both your laptop/adapter and the room wall port. Confirm whether the link indicator LED on your network adapter illuminates.
Ensure your network adapter is configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically". IIT Bombay hostel subnets assign IP addresses automatically upon authentication.
If the wall port is unpowered or your room subnet is unresponsive, report the room number, wing, and port label to your Hostel SysAd, who can inspect the floor switch rack.
If an entire floor, wing, or hostel faces persistent network failure for over 48 hours without SysAd resolution, email mlc@iitb.ac.in with your hostel name, wing, switch rack location, and CC ticket ID.
Computer Centre (CC) Problem Reporting
Official destination for LDAP credential resets, institutional webmail, IITB-Wireless certificates, and central servers.
Computer Centre is the authoritative department responsible for central infrastructure, LDAP user IDs, IITB-Wireless access, email quotas, and high-performance computing clusters.
Navigate to https://help.cc.iitb.ac.in and log in with your IIT Bombay LDAP ID and password. Select the relevant queue (e.g. Network, Mail, Accounts, Wireless, Web).
Include your room number, hostel name, IP address, MAC address, and a concise description or screenshot of the issue in the ticket body.
CC network engineers track and respond through the helpdesk ticket system. Keep your Ticket ID noted for any future escalation.
Network Compliance & Quarantined IPs
Guidance on access restrictions, blocked IP addresses, malware quarantine, and acceptable use compliance.
Automated CC security systems may quarantine IP or MAC addresses generating malicious packet traffic, spam broadcast, virus scans, or running rogue DHCP servers.
Run a full system antivirus scan, remove unauthorized network sharing utilities or rogue virtual interfaces, and ensure operating system security patches are up to date.
Confirm that no rogue routers or unauthorized network splitters are connected to the wall jack with loopback cables.
Once your machine is sanitized, submit an unblock application via CC Helpdesk. If you believe your IP was isolated for legitimate academic research traffic, contact MLC.
Hostel System Administration
Hostel computer room facilities, switch rack maintenance, and SysAd coordination guidelines.
SysAds are appointed annually by hostel councils in coordination with the Institute Middle Layer Committee to steward local computing resources.
SysAds oversee distribution switch racks on residential floors. Switch cabinets must remain locked, and keys must be handled responsibly.
SysAds oversee the operational health of computer room PCs, licensed software installations, and network uplinks in accordance with CC policies.
In the event of switch port failure or burned hardware, SysAds coordinate directly with CC hardware engineers for prompt module replacement.
Unresolved After Following the Standard Helpdesk Route?
If your ticket on the CC Helpdesk has remained without response for over 5 business days, or your entire residential floor is without network connectivity, write directly to the committee at mlc@iitb.ac.in specifying your ticket number, room number, hostel name, and switch location.
