Hostel Computer Room Policies
Official guidelines governing the administration, maintenance, access rights, and hardware preservation of hostel computing rooms.
- Every resident of the hostel can ask for a login for hostel computers.
- All new entrants should be given logins within 2 weeks after they join the hostel.
- There should be no guest/common logins allowed.
- The computer room is property of Computer Centre (CC). However, the hostels are responsible for essential maintenance and cleanliness.
- Only the computers which have a licensed version of Windows are allowed to have Windows installed on them.
- There should be a Computer Council for each hostel which consists of all previous and present SysAds/Comp Secretaries. System Administrators / Comp Secretaries are responsible to the CC primarily, and then the hostel council. However, hostel councils retain the right to appoint SysAds and Comp Secretaries in agreement with the hostel comp council. Members of the comp council can perform minor maintenance work.
- The hostel council can draft its own policies (with approval of the hostel comp council) regarding computer room usage, provided they do not clash with Institute MLC policies.
- Any fund generated through the computer room, including fines, must be used exclusively for the development of computational facilities in the computer room.
- Any hardware cannot be removed from the computer room (except for official maintenance work) without the explicit approval of MLC.
